Thorough Stripping: Engines are stripped down to their bare blocks, enabling us to assess every component for restoration.
Crankshaft Journals Precision: Our skilled technicians meticulously measure and inspect the main crankshaft journals to ensure they adhere to factory tolerances.
Cylinder Bore Excellence: The cylinder bores are scrutinised for wear and ovality, guaranteeing that they remain within the specified limits for optimal performance.
Connecting Rod Perfection: We inspect connecting rod journals for damage and run-out, rigorously measuring against factory specifications.
Precise Cleaning: The engine block undergoes a comprehensive chemical cleaning process, effectively eliminating contaminants from oil feed passages.
Cylinder Head Restoration: Cylinder heads are stripped, valves and valve stem seals are replaced, and a thorough parts washer cleaning restores them to prime condition.
Cylinder Head Rebuilding: Our cylinder head rebuilding process includes precise valve seat recuts, new valve stem seals, skimming, and meticulous pressure testing to ensure integrity.
Connecting Rod Assessment: Each connecting rod is methodically checked for distortion or damage, ensuring uniform performance.
Professional Refinishing: The engine block receives a professional repainting, providing enhanced aesthetics and protection against corrosion.
Bore Perfection: Cylinder bores are expertly de-glazed and re-honed to prepare them for the installation of new piston rings.
Clearance Verification: The main crankshaft bearing oil running clearance and big end running clearance are meticulously measured and verified.
Crankshaft End Float: The end float of the crankshaft is carefully measured to ensure it meets stringent factory specifications.

Classic defender failed MOT, Ben Thompson Auto’s not only managed to fit me in last minute but managed to work through the full job list within the 10 days, took the vehicle back to the MOT garage for a successful pass. As well as some additional jobs.Several defender specialists have had the vehicle and were unable to identify / fix one specific issue I hadn’t even mentioned this issue but they identified and fixed without an additional charge! Cannot recommend enough!! First time using Ben and I’ll never go elsewhere! From start to finish he has been absolutely incredible.To cut a very long story short, I brought a discovery sport from a dealer and within a few months the gearbox needed to be replaced. As you can imagine, I was totally at a loss and petrified of costs and being without a car until it was fixed.Ben reassured me the day he got the car collected that he would take care of it and I didn’t need to worry. Well, he is a man of his word! He dealt with the warranty company, he kept me UPTO date with the process and replaced the whole gear box within a day of receiving it.
